Microsoft is simplifying the AI journey in Dynamics 365 Business Central` by allowing developers to use Microsoft-managed Azure OpenAI resources for Copilot capabilities, eliminating the need for each customer to bring and manage their own Azure AI subscription.
As part of the 2025 Release Wave 1, this change—available in Public Preview (June 2025) and expected for General Availability (October 2025)—offers a powerful way for ISVs, developers, and customers to embed AI into their solutions without infrastructure headaches.
Whether you’re a Dynamics 365 Business Central partner or an end-user, here’s why this matters:
✅ No Azure Subscription Hassle Publishers can now use default AI resources built into the Business Central developer tools—no need to procure or manage an Azure OpenAI subscription.
✅ Faster AI Onboarding With simplified configuration, developers can easily plug Copilot features into their extensions and go live faster.
✅ Enterprise-Grade Reliability & Compliance Microsoft’s AI platform ensures scalability, security, and regulatory compliance, making it a safe choice for customers with sensitive data.
✅ Unified AI Billing Experience Instead of juggling AI costs across multiple vendors, customers now get centralised consumption tracking and billing, reducing overhead and confusion.
By default, the recommended approach is to authenticate using:
al
AzureOpenAI.SetManagedResourceAuthorization( Enum::"AOAI Model Type"::"Chat Completions", AzureOpenAIAccountName, AzureOpenAIApiKey, AOAIDeployments.GetGPT4oLatest() );
Need advanced control or specific AI models? Bring Your Own (BYO) Azure subscription with:
al
AzureOpenAI.SetAuthorization( Enum::"AOAI Model Type"::"Chat Completions", GetEndpoint(), GetDeployment(), GetApiKey() );
Note: AI billing here does not replace AppSource monetization—it complements it by simplifying AI consumption paths for customers.
As AI adoption grows rapidly in the GCC region, particularly in the UAE, this update will empower local ISVs and Microsoft partners to deliver smarter ERP solutions more quickly, with fewer barriers to entry and stronger compliance postures.
At Square International Technologies Consulting, we’re already helping customers implement Business Central AI extensions with these tools. If you’re looking to build or extend with Copilot, now is the time.
